Massive Combined Assault Hits Kyiv and Surrounding Area
In the early hours of Sunday, May 24, Russia launched a large-scale combined attack on the Ukrainian capital and the broader Kyiv region, causing widespread destruction. The assault, which involved both missile strikes and drone swarms, damaged residential buildings, warehouses, and civilian infrastructure sites.
Scope of the Damage
In the Vyshhorod district, a direct hit was recorded on a multi-story apartment building in the city of Vyshhorod. The Bucha district saw significant damage to a high-rise in Vyshneve, where a fire triggered by the shelling was eventually contained over an area of 100 square meters. Additional destruction in this district included:
- an apartment building in the village of Kriukivshchyna;
- a logistics center in the village of Horenka;
- a storage facility in the village of Bilohorodka.
The Fastiv district also suffered damage: a two-story apartment building was hit in Novosilky, and private homes were struck in Tarasivka and Nove. In the village of Vita-Poshtova, incoming fire sparked a large blaze that consumed two private residences. In the Bila Tserkva district, a strike hit a garage cooperative in Bila Tserkva city, burning down three private garages. In the Boryspil district, debris damaged a private sauna building in Boryspil city, while in the Brovary district, fragments from a downed drone fell on open ground in the village of Pukhivka.
According to preliminary reports, two men were killed in the Bucha and Obukhiv districts. The number of wounded has risen to nine, including an infant under one year old, according to the Kyiv Regional Prosecutor's Office. Emergency response teams are working at all damaged sites to clear debris and assess the aftermath.
This attack underscores the ongoing security threat to Kyiv and its suburbs, as well as the severe toll the conflict continues to take on civilians. Kyiv Regional Prosecutor's Office
Authorities are pressing forward with recovery operations and investigations into the incidents to ensure the safety of local residents. Given the extensive damage, especially in residential areas, rebuilding infrastructure and providing social support to victims will be critical priorities in the coming days and weeks.
The recent attack on Kyiv highlights the ongoing threats faced by the region, as seen in a previous incident where six individuals were injured across multiple districts. This pattern of violence further emphasizes the urgent need for heightened security measures and international attention to the situation in Ukraine.
