Удар російських військ завдав шкоди важливим державним установам у столиці України.

Kyiv Attack on May 24, 2026

In the early hours of May 24, 2026, Kyiv faced a large-scale combined assault from Russian forces. As a result, the headquarters of the National Bank of Ukraine sustained minor damage. NBU Governor Andriy Pyshny confirmed this, stating that

“the NBU building felt some effects from the night attack. I won’t go into details—I won’t please the enemy. Besides, our team is already handling it. We’ll repair everything and restore it all.”

Fortunately, no bank employees were injured, and the country’s financial institutions continue to operate normally. However, reports indicate damage to several bank buildings and branches. The blast wave also struck the Cabinet of Ministers building, shattering its windows, while the Ministry of Foreign Affairs building on Mykhailivska Square suffered damage for the first time in over 80 years.

International Reaction

Andriy Pyshny emphasized that

“tomorrow we’ll start the workday—as usual! Everyone is alive, and staff are unharmed.”
The overnight assault also drew international condemnation. Hungarian Foreign Minister Anita Orbán denounced Russia’s actions, stating, “Quiet rage motivates and keeps focus on what matters. Eternal memory to the fallen, sincere condolences to their families, and a speedy recovery to the injured. We will endure and prevail.”

This attack underscores Russia’s ongoing military aggression against Ukraine, targeting not only military sites but also key national institutions. Despite the damage, the National Bank of Ukraine and other financial bodies have maintained operations, demonstrating the resilience of the financial system. The international response, including from Hungary, signals continued global support for Ukraine amid rising regional tensions.

The recent attack on Kyiv not only caused damage to the National Bank but also had severe implications for the Cabinet of Ministers, where fatalities and injuries were reported.
