Overnight Drone Strikes on Energy Grid Cause Blackouts in Occupied Crimea

Нічні удари дронів по енергетичній інфраструктурі призвели до відключень електроенергії в анексованому Криму.

Explosions and Drone Attacks Rock Occupied Crimea

On the nights of June 24–25, drone attacks targeted energy infrastructure across occupied Crimea, causing significant power outages in multiple cities. Strikes were recorded in the Saky, Bakhchysarai, and Krasnoperekopsk districts, as well as in Simferopol, Yalta, Yevpatoria, Sevastopol, and along the Kerch direction. The attacks led to widespread electricity disruptions. The previous night, June 24, a series of explosions had already triggered an energy collapse across the peninsula.

The night of June 25 saw explosions in the Saky and Bakhchysarai districts, as well as along the Kerch direction. In Simferopol, at least three powerful blasts were reported. Drones were observed flying toward the Kacha airfield. One strike on an energy facility in Simferopol caused immediate blackouts. In the Krasnoperekopsk district, windows rattled from the blasts, and a loud explosion was also heard in the Pervomaisky district.

Massive Assault on Power Infrastructure

In Sevastopol, mobile fire teams engaged drones as the city came under a massive attack by unmanned aerial vehicles. The Balaklava Thermal Power Plant was also hit. In Zaozerne, near Yevpatoria, voltage fluctuations and power losses were reported during the assault. Yalta experienced a complete blackout. Meanwhile, drones flew over the Bilohirsk and Leninsky districts toward Kerch, and explosions were audible in Armyansk.

The occupation's Ministry of Emergency Situations declared a drone threat, but with a significant delay. It is worth noting that on June 24, Crimea also suffered a series of explosions, during which the main electrical substation in Sevastopol was hit. That day, Sevastopol, Simferopol, Yalta, and Alushta were left without power, and suburban train services were temporarily suspended.

These events underscore the escalating conflict in the region and highlight the vulnerability of energy infrastructure, which is critical for the functioning of occupied territories. Frequent attacks on power facilities can have severe consequences for the local population, particularly through electricity disruptions that create additional hardships amid war. Monitoring the situation's further development is crucial, as it could influence the overall dynamics of the conflict.

The recent drone strikes have not only caused widespread blackouts but also ignited fires at key power facilities across the region. This escalation in attacks raises concerns about the stability of the energy supply in Crimea.
