Minesweeper 'Henichesk' Handed Over to Ukraine
The Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine have taken delivery of a minesweeper from the Kingdom of the Netherlands, named 'Henichesk'. This transfer took place as part of the Maritime Capabilities Coalition, which works to develop and strengthen Ukraine's naval forces. Commanders from the navies of the Netherlands, Belgium, Romania, Lithuania, and Latvia attended the flag-raising ceremony for the new vessel.
The ship 'Henichesk' is named after a Ukrainian Navy harbor minesweeper that was lost while carrying out a combat mission. With this addition, the Ukrainian Navy now operates five mine countermeasure vessels, boosting its ability to counter sea mines and other threats.
Technical Specifications and Capabilities
The hull of the new minesweeper is made from non-magnetic materials, such as polyester-based fiberglass, which enhances its effectiveness in operations. The superstructure is built from lightweight alloys, improving the ship's maneuverability on the water. 'Henichesk' is equipped with remotely operated underwater vehicles of the SeaFox type, used to identify underwater objects and destroy them through detonation. If needed, divers can be deployed for special demolition tasks.
“I assured that with the Ukrainian crew, 'Henichesk' will continue to carry out its missions with honor and contribute to security in the Black Sea and, if necessary, beyond.”
Vice Admiral Oleksiy Neizhpapa
This new minesweeper will play a key role in tasks involving the search and detection of naval mines, neutralizing explosive objects in the water, and ensuring the safety of civilian shipping.
The acquisition of the minesweeper 'Henichesk' highlights the growing international support for Ukraine in strengthening its naval forces. Amid modern maritime threats like mining, the new vessel will significantly expand Ukraine's capacity to ensure regional security. Cooperation with allies through the Maritime Capabilities Coalition demonstrates a unified effort to maintain stability in the Black Sea and surrounding waters.
