FVD's Demand
The Dutch political movement Forum for Democracy (FVD) has issued an appeal for an immediate and complete halt to asylum-seeker admissions and for the Netherlands to leave the European Union (NEXIT). The announcement comes in response to growing migrant flows through Spain, where close to 50,000 undocumented people crossed into the country from Morocco in one day. The party declared on X that 'the Spanish government has opened the doors for many tens of thousands of asylum seekers.'
Return Policies and Criticism
FVD also advocates stricter removal and deportation measures. The party has faced repeated criticism for its pro-Russian views and for opposing the EU's Association Agreement with Ukraine. In light of the current situation, the party argues that
'border policy must be fundamentally overhauled.'
The FVD statement illustrates rising public unease in the Netherlands over migration, especially as larger numbers of people attempt to reach Europe. With political instability and difficult social questions in play, immigration has become an increasingly urgent issue that could shape both Dutch domestic policy and the country's relationship with Brussels.
