Germany is completing its investigation into an armed drone that was found near a Ukrainian Antonov cargo aircraft at Leipzig/Halle airport. Chancellor Friedrich Merz said the decision will be announced in the next few days, and noted that the investigation is nearly done, with broad consensus inside the federal government on the right course of action.

On August 4, a drone carrying explosives was discovered close to a Ukrainian Antonov freighter at Leipzig/Halle airport. German media report that the country's security services have little doubt that Moscow is behind the operation. Merz avoided naming a responsible party publicly, but German authorities are reported to be preparing to blame Russia and impose sanctions.
Merz stressed that final arrangements with EU and NATO partners would be completed within days.
“We are at the closing stage of the inquiry. The federal government broadly agrees on how to respond, and we will unveil our decision shortly — it will not take long,”the chancellor said. He added:
“This will be Germany's response, but it will not surprise our EU and NATO partners. It has been coordinated.”
