Germany Steps Up Support for Ukraine’s Railway Restoration Efforts
In a significant boost to Ukraine’s railway recovery on the eastern front, Germany has handed over 10 vehicles to Ukrzaliznytsia, including five pickups and five cargo vans. This aid aims to empower repair teams tackling the severe damage caused by daily Russian strikes—averaging at least five attacks on rail infrastructure each day—that severely disrupt railway operations.
The delivery was made by Boris Ruge, Germany’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Ukraine. He praised the unwavering dedication of Ukrzaliznytsia staff, highlighting their resilience in maintaining train services despite ongoing assaults.

The newly supplied vehicles will be deployed by track repair crews, communication specialists, and energy workers who respond rapidly to the aftermath of attacks. Vladimir Shemayev, representing Ukrzaliznytsia, emphasized the critical nature of this assistance:

This vehicle donation was made possible through a collaborative effort between Ukraine’s Ministry of Restoration, Infrastructure and Transport and German partners. Previously, Germany has provided Ukraine with 18 vehicles, 32 generators, and 18 pieces of construction machinery — underscoring ongoing international support for Ukraine’s railway system during these turbulent times.

The delivery of these vehicles forms part of a wider German-backed program aimed at assisting Ukraine throughout the war.
