Ukrainian Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal held talks with the Chairman of the Defense Committee of the Bundestag of Germany, Thomas Röwekamp. During the meeting, issues of defense production, training of military personnel, and the use of frozen Russian assets were discussed. According to information from the Ministry of Defense, the parties talked about possible cooperation with German companies, joint production, and repair of equipment both in Ukraine and Germany, as well as training for Ukrainian military personnel.
'We coordinated our key needs on the battlefield. We appreciate Germany's contribution, particularly the provision of IRIS-T air defense systems and intentions to provide additional Patriot systems. We expect this support to continue,' said the defense minister.
Additionally, the minister called for the activation of work on the confiscation of frozen Russian assets that can be used for budgetary support for Ukraine. He also expressed gratitude to Germany for its participation in projects to assist the Ukrainian state, initiated by NATO and the EU, and emphasized that German partners will support Ukraine for as long as necessary.
As a result of the negotiations, urgent issues of defense cooperation and opportunities for support from Germany to Ukraine were addressed.
