Germany has extended temporary protection for Ukrainians until March 4, 2028. At the same time, additional requirements were put in place for some men of conscription age applying for protection for the first time. They must confirm the fulfillment of military obligations or have legal grounds for exemption. Temporary protection in Germany: what requirements are in effect in 2026
The changes to the regulation were introduced by the German Ministry of the Interior. The document governs the stay of Ukrainians in the country under temporary protection conditions. For men of conscription age, who are subject to military obligations, documents confirming compliance or legal grounds for exemption may be requested.
This may be a document proving the fulfillment of military obligations, exemption from it, or legal departure from Ukraine. New applicants are advised to check in advance what specific confirmations are accepted by German authorities.
