Germany has proposed to Brazil to purchase dozens of Leopard 2A6 tanks and Marder 1A5 infantry fighting vehicles, which Ukraine allegedly declined to buy, according to Brazilian publication Tecno&Defesa. This proposal involves 65 used Leopard 2A6 and 78 Marder 1A5.
'It is these last tanks that are being offered to Brazil (and from which, according to some sources, the Ukrainians declined)'
However, the information about Ukraine's refusal is questionable, as the German resource German Aid To Ukraine emphasizes that this equipment has been retired from the Bundeswehr and requires significant maintenance and technical support costs.
Doubtfulness of the offer
The Ukrainian publication Defense Express emphasizes that the cost of this armored equipment offered by Germany seems inflated. It is expected that each Leopard 2A6 will cost around 15 million euros, while the Marder will be 10 million euros.
It is noted that these prices are for the vehicles only, excluding further support and maintenance, so Ukraine's refusal of this proposal is understandable, but unfortunate, considering the difficulties with technical support.
Reports that Germany proposed to Brazil to buy armored vehicles after refusing Ukraine raise some doubts. Insiders believe that the prices for the equipment may be inflated, and also point to the need for serious expenses for support and maintenance.
