German Military Enlists Ukrainian Instructors to Counter Modern Threats

Німецькі військові залучають українських фахівців для підготовки до нових викликів в обороні.

Germany Expands Training Program with Ukrainian Military Instructors

Germany is broadening a program that utilizes Ukrainian military instructors to train its armed forces, the Bundeswehr. This initiative is part of Germany's effort to enhance the readiness of its personnel by integrating the hard-won, contemporary combat experience of Ukrainian specialists. Currently, these instructors are active at three German military schools: the Armored Corps School, the Unmanned Aerial Systems Training Base, and the Engineer School.

Lieutenant General Christian Freuding, the Inspector of the German Army, emphasized that Ukrainian instructors are working alongside German troops to drill tactics in field conditions. Their training focuses on imparting skills based on scenarios that closely mirror real-world warfare, aiming to make Bundeswehr preparation more effective against current threats.

New Defense Pact and Military Aid Package Announced

In a related development, Ukraine and Germany signed a bilateral defense cooperation agreement in Berlin. As part of this pact, Germany announced a new military aid package for Ukraine, which includes air defense systems, drones, and ammunition. A separate agreement on defense industry collaboration was also finalized.

General Freuding noted that Russian armed forces are currently suffering operational and even tactical setbacks. He reported that Ukrainian partners have informed him of over 400 Russian soldiers killed or wounded for every square kilometer of territory they gain. This high attrition rate, he stated, is buying Ukraine and its allies crucial time to develop their own deterrence capabilities. These exhausting factors for Russian forces create a strategic window to bolster defensive strength.

The expansion of the Ukrainian instructor program represents a significant step in strengthening the defense capabilities of both nations and reflects deepening security cooperation between Kyiv and Berlin. This collaboration highlights a strategic partnership where battlefield-proven expertise is directly shaping NATO-aligned training. Germany's dual approach—enhancing its own military readiness while providing substantial aid—demonstrates a committed, long-term strategy to support Ukraine's sovereignty and regional stability.

In light of these developments, the recent announcement of a significant military support package for Ukraine underscores the ongoing commitment of Germany and its allies to bolster Ukraine's defense capabilities. This new aid includes advanced air defense systems and funding for drones, further enhancing the collaborative efforts between the two nations.
