Employees of the Chernivtsi Border Guard Detachment recently detained a group of smugglers at the border with Romania. As reported by the press center of the State Border Guard Service (SBGS), the border guards received information about the preparation of illegal transportation of tobacco products across the state border to Romania in the area of the 'Krasnoyilsk' department.
According to the SBGS, the criminals first sent individuals with empty packages to test for the presence of border patrols to imitate an attempt to transport goods. After that, the next group followed them, this time with full packages.
But the border guards uncovered the plot of the criminals and moved to intercept. During the detention, the offenders abandoned their loads and attempted to flee. During the pursuit, border guards detained one of them.
During a subsequent inspection of the area, law enforcement officers discovered 4 empty boxes and 4 boxes of cigarettes without excise tax marks. A total of 2 thousand packs worth about 115 thousand hryvnias.
Against the detained individual and his accomplices, whose data is currently being established, information has been entered into the Unified Register of Pre-Trial Investigations under Article 204 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The discovered cigarettes have been transferred to the Bureau of Economic Security.
Measures were conducted jointly with representatives of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Chernivtsi region.
