High-Level Talks in Yerevan
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre held a meeting in Yerevan to discuss critical aspects of their strategic partnership. The conversation centered on Norway’s contributions to the PURL program, which are approaching the $1 billion mark. Zelenskyy expressed his gratitude for Oslo’s continued backing, stating:
“I thanked Norway for all the support provided to our country, particularly for the nearly $1 billion in contributions to the PURL program.” — Volodymyr Zelenskyy
Funding Urgency and Energy Assistance
Given the persistent threat of Russian aggression, Zelenskyy stressed the need for timely disbursement of PURL funds:
“Russia continues its ballistic strikes, so ensuring the PURL program is adequately funded on time is extremely important.” — Volodymyr Zelenskyy
The leaders also discussed efforts to bolster Ukraine’s air defense systems and the finalization of a Drone Deal, which represents a key area of cooperation between the public and private sectors.
Energy support was another major topic, with a focus on Ukraine’s natural gas requirements for the coming winter. President Zelenskyy emphasized: “Ukraine must enter the winter fully prepared.” He also thanked Norway and Prime Minister Støre personally for their willingness to assist Ukraine during these challenging times.
This meeting highlights the crucial role of international support for Ukraine amid escalating military threats. As one of Kyiv’s key partners, Norway continues to demonstrate its commitment to providing both financial and material aid, which is vital for Ukraine’s stability and security. The agreements reached on defense and energy cooperation signal a deepening of bilateral ties, which will likely enhance Ukraine’s ability to address the region’s evolving challenges.
In addition to the discussions on aid and energy, Zelenskyy's recent engagements in Norway also covered significant topics such as the drone deal and war tribunal. These matters are crucial for Ukraine's ongoing defense strategy and highlight the multifaceted nature of international cooperation amid the ongoing conflict.
