Poland Introduces New Food Labeling Regulations
Poland's Ministry of Agriculture has announced a set of new food labeling rules set to take effect in 2026. These changes are designed to provide consumers with greater transparency and include mandatory country-of-origin flags on fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as detailed labeling requirements for honey, juices, and jams. This move aligns with broader European trends toward clearer consumer information.
Starting February 17, 2026, unpackaged fresh fruits and vegetables sold by weight must display the producer country's name and a small flag graphic on their price tags. This will allow shoppers to more easily identify product origin and quality. Further changes concerning the labeling of honey, juices, and jams will come into force on June 14, 2026.
Specifics of the New Labeling Requirements
For honey, labels must list all countries of origin in descending order by weight, along with the precise percentage of honey from each specified country. Regarding jams and jellies, the requirement to state total sugar content will be removed. A new category for fruit juices with reduced natural sugar content will also be established. It's important to note that products manufactured and labeled under the old rules before these dates can remain on shelves until sold out.
