New insulation standards in Ukraine: why our walls should be thicker

Engineer Dmytro Makohon expressed the necessity to revise approaches to energy efficiency of buildings in Ukraine to reduce energy consumption. According to the specialist, the current standard for walls in Ukraine is 4, whereas in Denmark this indicator is significantly higher at 7. This indicates that Ukrainian buildings require serious improvements in the direction of increasing energy efficiency.

Dmytro Makohon noted that the example of insulation in Denmark is 30 cm, while in Ukraine the insulation measurement is 1.5-2 times lower. This creates conditions for significantly higher energy costs, especially given the extremely complicated situation with electricity supply and heating in Ukraine, as emphasized by President Volodymyr Zelensky.

The specialist also pointed out that construction under stricter standards may be more expensive, but in operation it is more profitable since energy consumption is reduced. Therefore, it is important to find a balance between construction costs and energy savings, which will improve living conditions and reduce the load on the country's energy system.

Impact of new standards on energy efficiency

By changing insulation standards, Ukraine can not only reduce energy consumption but also lower CO2 emissions, which is an important step in the fight against climate change. Successful implementation of new standards can contribute to better energy efficiency in construction and improve the overall state of the country’s energy infrastructure, especially amid modern challenges.

These changes can also become an important element in post-war recovery, as energy-efficient buildings can become the foundation for sustainable regional development.
