New auto insurance rules in Ukraine: what has changed for drivers and victims

Зміни в правилах автострахування в Україні: що слід врахувати водіям і потерпілим.

New auto insurance rules in Ukraine

In Ukraine, the rules of auto insurance have changed, enhancing the protection for victims and increasing the cost of policies. One of the key changes is the increase in the maximum amount for car repairs to 250,000 UAH, which is a significant rise compared to the previous limit of 160,000 UAH. Additionally, the maximum amount for the treatment of victims has increased to 500,000 UAH, which previously stood at 320,000 UAH.

Aside from raising limits, the new rules stipulate that insurance companies no longer have the right to deduct part of the payment. This means that victims can receive a larger part of the compensation without unjustified deductions. Insurers are obliged to cover car repairs without considering the age of the parts, which will also positively affect the financial situation of drivers in case of an accident.

Changes in control and policy costs

In order to increase control, verifying the existence of a policy is now done automatically using speed camera systems. This innovation aims to reduce instances of invalid policies being used. Furthermore, for combatants (UBD) and persons with disabilities, a 50% discount on the policy is provided, easing the financial burden for these categories of citizens.

The cost of an annual policy for a passenger car with an engine volume of up to 1600 cm³ varies among leading insurance companies. In particular, the costs are as follows:

  • PZU - 4,941 UAH
  • Etalon - 5,027 UAH
  • VUSO - 5,356 UAH
  • Uniqa - 5,434 UAH
  • INGO - 5,549 UAH

It is known that the company VUSO typically pays out funds within 30 days, while in other companies, the term can reach 65 or 110 days, which may be an important factor when choosing an insurer.

The changes in auto insurance rules in Ukraine aim to improve the protection of drivers and victims, but at the same time, they may lead to an increase in policy costs, requiring drivers to be more attentive when choosing insurance products.

The updates to the auto insurance rules in Ukraine reflect the state's desire to ensure a higher level of protection for victims of road accidents and to promote more transparent relations between policyholders and insurance companies.
