Entry Regulations for Romania in 2026
Starting in 2026, new entry rules will apply to Ukrainian citizens traveling to Romania. For visa-free travel, Ukrainians must possess a valid biometric passport. The updated regulations permit a stay of no more than 90 days within any 180-day period. Those planning to work or study in Romania will require an appropriate visa. Romania, a member of the European Union, periodically updates its border policies in line with regional security agreements.
Medical and Customs Regulations
Transit passengers must also carry valid entry documents for their final destination or a residence permit. Regarding health requirements, Ukrainians must have medical insurance with a minimum coverage of €30,000, the authenticity of which border officials may verify.
Furthermore, specific customs restrictions are in place. It is prohibited to carry cash exceeding €10,000 without declaration. The import of the following items is also not permitted:
- Weapons;
- Narcotic substances;
- Products of animal origin;
- Seeds without the appropriate certificates.
Household pets may be admitted into Romania, but only if they have an international standard veterinary passport. These new entry rules aim to enhance security and ensure legal compliance.
These changes to Romania's entry regulations could significantly impact Ukrainian tourists planning visits, as well as those intending to work or study in the country.
The introduction of requirements for biometric passports, medical insurance, and cash declaration indicates a tightening of border controls and Romania's commitment to the safety of its citizens and visitors. Ukrainian travelers are advised to review these new requirements carefully to avoid complications during their journey.
