Fresh Russian Strikes Leave Thousands Without Power Across Four Ukrainian Regions

Останні ракетні удари Росії залишили тисячі людей без електроенергії у чотирьох областях України.

As of the Morning of March 26

Thousands of consumers in the Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv, and Sumy regions have been left without electricity following a new wave of Russian missile and drone attacks targeting Ukraine's energy infrastructure. The most severe damage is reported in the Odesa and Chernihiv regions, where the impact of the strikes has been most significant. These attacks are part of a sustained Russian campaign to cripple Ukraine's power grid, which began in the fall of 2022.

Emergency repair crews have already begun restoration efforts.

Ukrenergo, the national energy company, stated: 'Wherever security conditions currently allow, emergency repair work is already underway. Our energy workers are doing everything possible to restore power to all consumers as quickly as possible.'
Additionally, the city of Slavutych was also left without power following a recent attack.

Situation in Lviv and Recommendations

The situation in Lviv is also concerning. On March 24, Russia launched one of its largest mass drone attacks, sending over 550 strike drones into Ukrainian airspace. This assault on Lviv resulted in casualties and damaged a nationally significant architectural monument—the ensemble of the Bernardine Monastery. This relentless targeting of civilian infrastructure has created a humanitarian crisis alongside the military conflict.

In light of these widespread blackouts, Ukrenergo is urging consumers to limit their electricity use:

  • Considering weather conditions, it is advisable to shift high-energy consumption to the period when solar power plants are most effective—between 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM.
  • Use electricity sparingly and avoid switching on multiple high-power appliances simultaneously during the evening peak hours from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM.

The power supply situation in Ukraine remains critical due to systematic Russian attacks on its energy grid. This leads to significant hardship for the population enduring the consequences of blackouts. While repair work continues, the security situation complicates these efforts, especially in the hardest-hit regions. Under these conditions, following recommendations to limit consumption is vital for supporting the stability of the energy system and enabling the restoration of power.
