GB202 Chip Supply Discontinued for RTX 5090

On October 13, 2023, Nvidia announced it would stop delivering GB202 graphics chips for the gaming-focused RTX 5090. This chip is also used in nine other models designed for workstations and data centers. Moving forward, all GB202 shipments will be dedicated solely to the RTX Pro lineup.

Video Card Pricing Overview

The RTX Pro 6000 Blackwell is priced at approximately $18,000, while the RTX 5090 costs around $9,000. Notably, Nvidia recently restructured its financial reporting by separating gaming into a distinct Edge Computing category. At the start of January 2025, the RTX 5090 was priced at $1,999, but its price has surged to nearly $10,000 today.

Rumors circulated in February 2024 about Nvidia potentially discontinuing the RTX 5070 Ti, but these claims were proven false. The next generation of Nvidia graphics cards is expected in 2028, which could help maintain high prices for premium GPUs.

"All future GB202 shipments will be exclusive to RTX Pro." - Nvidia Representative

Ceasing GB202 chip deliveries for the RTX 5090 reflects a strategic pivot by Nvidia toward more lucrative professional markets, focusing on the RTX Pro series. This move suggests a shift away from the gaming segment, which may be less profitable moving forward. The rising cost of the RTX 5090 also highlights growing demand for high-end graphics processors, potentially impacting the broader market landscape.

For international consumers, these changes emphasize Nvidia’s increasing emphasis on professional-grade solutions over gaming hardware, which could influence availability and pricing trends worldwide.
