Halos for Robotics Launched

NVIDIA has introduced the Halos for Robotics safety platform, designed to aid in the development and deployment of autonomous robots. Agility Robotics is the first company to adopt elements of Halos for Robotics, planning to integrate these new technologies into its humanoid robot, Digit. Digit is already utilized by clients such as Amazon, GXO, Schaeffler, and Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada.

Core Platform Components

The Halos for Robotics platform comprises several essential components:

  • The NVIDIA IGX Thor industrial computing module
  • The Holoscan Sensor Bridge sensor connectivity system
  • The Halos Core software

This system builds on expertise accumulated from over 18,600 person-years of development in autonomous vehicle safety. To evaluate functional safety and intelligent robotic systems, NVIDIA has established the Halos AI Systems Inspection Lab, a dedicated verification center.

According to Deepu Talla, NVIDIA's vice president of robotics and edge AI,

“Physical AI is transforming factories, warehouses, and logistics centers, so developers need a unified safety architecture to scale autonomous systems in these environments.”

Lori E. Locasio, president and CEO of ANSI, noted that

“With the rise of AI-enabled robots in industry, sectors require internationally recognized safety assessment standards for increasingly complex systems.”

Peggy Johnson, CEO of Agility Robotics, emphasized that 'for large-scale deployment of humanoids, safety must be built into the robot's design and verified at the system level.'

Over 40 companies have already joined the Halos ecosystem. The robots developed using this platform are designed for applications in manufacturing floors, warehouses, factories, and logistics centers. The platform was launched on June 23.

The launch of the Halos for Robotics platform marks a strategic move by NVIDIA to advance autonomous robotics technology, which is becoming increasingly critical in modern manufacturing and logistics operations. Implementing a unified safety architecture for autonomous systems represents a significant step in ensuring their reliability and efficiency, especially as technology grows more complex. With numerous companies joining the Halos ecosystem, this platform could become a key player in shaping the future of robotics.
