Ukraine carried out yet another prisoner exchange, resulting in the return of those who fell into Russian captivity. These included severely ill, seriously wounded, and young servicemen under the age of 25. Their captivity was confirmed by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and other sources. This was reported by ‘Hlavkom’ citing the Coordinating Headquarters for the Treatment of Servicemen.
The Coordinating Headquarters gathers information about Ukrainians who are imprisoned in various places and constantly updates the data. The group successfully returned another team of Ukrainian defenders from captivity. This operation took place under conditions agreed upon by the parties within the framework of agreements made in Istanbul.
‘Russia does not allow the International Committee of the Red Cross and medical commissions to visit prisons and pre-trial detention centers, however, Russian propaganda resources continue to blame the Ukrainian authorities, trying to generate conflicts and distrust’
Among the returning servicemen were representatives of various state structures - these were fighters from the Navy, Ground Forces, Territorial Defense, Volunteer Corps, Special Operations Forces, National Guard of Ukraine, State Border Service, and the State Service for Special Transport.
The Ukrainian side continues to make efforts to return all citizens who are imprisoned in occupied territories. This exchange is an important step towards solving humanitarian issues during the war in Donbas.
