Kherson Shelling on February 7
A Russian rocket attack on Kherson's Korabelny district on February 7 injured three civilians and further crippled the city's heating infrastructure. The assault, which occurred around 11:10 PM using multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS), wounded two women, aged 86 and 44, who were hospitalized with moderate injuries. Both were diagnosed with closed head injuries, blast trauma, and concussions. A third victim, a 76-year-old woman, received on-site medical aid but refused hospitalization.
Heating Crisis Worsens
This incident is part of a recent escalation of attacks on the city. Earlier, on January 5, Russian forces shelled a Kherson hospital, injuring a 36-year-old woman and a 57-year-old medical worker, both of whom suffered blast injuries and shrapnel wounds and were later released for outpatient care.
The situation with Kherson's heating supply remains dire. Daily shelling of the Kherson Thermal Power Plant (TPP) prevents its repair, leaving 470 apartment buildings connected to its network without centralized heating. The plant has sustained severe damage to its buildings and equipment from drone strikes, artillery, and other weapons. The city's proximity to the front line makes it a frequent target, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis for residents who have endured occupation and ongoing attacks.
Oleksandr Tolokonnikov noted: 'We are considering several options for assistance so that people have the means to heat their homes in addition to the TPP.'
The ongoing attacks in Kherson continue to cause grave concern due to their impact on civilians and critical infrastructure. The deterioration of living conditions, particularly the lack of heating, threatens the health and safety of residents. Local authorities are seeking solutions, but the relentless assaults complicate infrastructure recovery, demanding an urgent response and support from the state and international organizations.
