Armed Attacks on the Railway: Complications with Train Movement
As a result of another shelling, trains and railway infrastructure have been damaged. There is no electricity supply in several sections of the Sumy region. This was reported by the Ukrzaliznytsia agency, as mentioned by 'Glavcom'.
To improve safety, train movements on routes No. 144 Rakhiv - Sumy and No. 787 Tereshchenska - Kyiv have been suspended. The duration of the delay will be announced additionally. Also, train No. 6888 Sumy - Lebedynska has been halted indefinitely. Movement will be restored as soon as circumstances allow.
In addition, changes have been made to the routes of suburban trains: train No. 6012 will operate from Sumy to Trostyanets-Smordynia (instead of Vorozhba - Trostyanets-Smordynia). Buses and trains will operate in the region due to the absence of electricity supply. As a result, some suburban routes will experience delays.
"Regarding the situation in Dnipropetrovsk and Kharkiv regions: due to increased danger and lack of electricity supply in some areas, there may be route changes and delays of up to 1.5 hours in suburban routes," the press release states.
Recently, the enemy carried out a nighttime drone attack on the railway station in Sumy region. As a result, two railway workers were injured.
Attacks on Ukraine's Railway Have Increased
It is worth noting that attacks on Ukraine's railway infrastructure are becoming more frequent, with Russian Shahed drones delivering precise strikes, threatening civilian and military transportation.
Since mid-summer 2025, Russia has intensified its attacks on Ukraine's railways using Shahed drones. According to the head of Ukrzaliznytsia, Oleksandr Perczovsky, strikes on locomotives and substations are aimed at creating panic among passengers and causing harm to the economy, rather than targeting military cargo. Enhanced drones enable Russia to accurately attack civilian infrastructure, increasing the effectiveness of attacks.
The conflict in eastern Ukraine continues, and the increasing attacks on the railway present a serious challenge to Ukraine's infrastructure and national security. The consequences for transportation and economy could be extremely serious, and immediate measures must be taken to protect civilian facilities and ensure the safety of citizens.
