The Romanian city of Galați will transfer 20 buses to Odesa to strengthen urban passenger transport. The partners also agreed on training Odesa specialists who will attract funding from European funds and programs. This was reported by the head of the Odesa City Military Administration, Serhiy Lysak.
Buses for Odesa: what Galați will transfer in 2026
The agreements were discussed during a meeting with the city manager of the Galați municipality, Cezar Bichescu. According to Lysak, the additional transport will help make transportation more reliable, as thousands of people use it every day.
The announcement mentions the future transfer of 20 buses. The arrival date, models, capacity, and routes they will operate on have not yet been revealed.
For Odesa, this continues the transport support from partners. In October, seven buses already arrived in the city from Dnipro, and earlier, Ukrainian communities agreed on the transfer of about 40 buses to operate under conditions of electrical supply problems.
Cooperation between Odesa and Galați: European funding in 2026
A separate agreement concerns the training of specialists in attracting funds from European funds and programs. The training is aimed at helping Odesa specialists prepare projects and find funding for their implementation.
During the meeting, they also discussed the restoration of infrastructure, municipal services, culture, and education. There are no specific funding amounts or lists of projects mentioned in the announcement.
For passengers, the next important step will be determining the routes for which the received vehicles will be deployed. Earlier, Odesa already reviewed the operation of social buses due to the duplication of tram and trolleybus routes, so the number of vehicles transferred does not yet determine the future transport scheme.
