Kyiv and Dnipro will transfer seven passenger buses to Odesa to strengthen public transport after losses due to Russian attacks. Earlier, during one of the shelling incidents, six buses caught fire in the city, and another 11 were damaged. This is reported by the Kyiv City Council.
Which buses Kyiv and Dnipro will send to Odesa
These are seven MAZ buses of two models. They belong to Kyiv, but since October 2022, they have been used by Dnipro. At that time, the capital transferred 30 vehicles to the city after a Russian strike that destroyed a portion of the local transport.
Now, Kyiv as the owner of the buses and Dnipro, which used them, agreed to direct a portion of the vehicles to Odesa.
«Odesa has an acute need for public transport, as much of its rolling stock has been destroyed by the enemy,» explained Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko.
The buses have a low floor and are designed to accommodate either 100 or 150 passengers depending on the model. The vehicles are equipped with ramps for people who use wheelchairs, and the drivers' cabins have air conditioning units.
The buses are equipped with Mercedes-Benz engines and Voith automatic transmissions.
Why Odesa needs additional buses
Odesa's public transport has repeatedly suffered from Russian attacks and damage to energy infrastructure throughout 2026. Due to electricity supply issues, the city had to replace electric transport with buses on numerous routes.
«We must help and support each other today, we must stand together and win,» emphasized Klitschko.
The transfer of seven vehicles is expected to partially compensate for the deficit in rolling stock and increase the city's capacity for passenger transportation.
This is not the first interregional assistance to Odesa in terms of transport. At the beginning of 2026, Inkorr reported that the city was to receive about 40 buses from communities across various regions of Ukraine due to electric transport issues.
