Chrysi Island, the fairy-tale gem of Crete, is closing its doors to tourists again in the summer of 2025. Despite its unique nature, the island has fallen victim to a tourism boom. Unfortunately, the island's ecosystem has begun to deteriorate due to careless environmental practices. As a result, the authorities of Crete have decided to take measures to restore the balance of nature, returning the island to illegal construction and other uncontrolled activities.

From early May to the end of October, tourists will be prohibited from landing on Chrysi Island, and access to the cedar forest will be strictly limited. However, boats and yachts will be able to circle the island and briefly stop for swimming while keeping nature intact.

This decisive action is aimed at regulating tourist flow and preserving the uniqueness of Chrysi Island for future generations, giving nature a chance to recover from human impact.
