The Ministry of the Interior of Lithuania proposes to extend temporary protection for Ukrainian refugees until March 2027. Currently, Ukrainians have the right to reside in the country until March 2026, so the proposed changes will automatically extend this period by another year.

'The general position of the European Union is to extend temporary protection, as the war is not over yet. This is a natural decision,' emphasized the Minister of the Interior of Lithuania Vladislav Kondratovich.

This decision will simplify the procedure for Ukrainian citizens and migration service workers, as between 30 and 40 new applications for temporary status are received daily.

At the same time, Poland plans to implement a new digital platform for payments to Ukrainian refugees. They will be required to re-submit documents indicating their children's education data and their employment activity starting from February 2026. This innovation aims to optimize the payment system but is expected to lead to a temporary reduction in the number of aid recipients by about 10%.
