Appeal to the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine
The Odrex Medical House and the Miller law firm have formally requested that the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine ensure the legality of an inspection of the building housing their clinic. They stress that this inspection pertains solely to the property itself and is unrelated to any medical activities or to the criminal case concerning the death of Adnan Kivan. Odrex and Miller representatives warn that potential interruptions to clinical operations could pose significant risks to patient safety and ongoing treatment.
A court order for the building inspection was issued to the legal entity that owns the property, from which Odrex leases its premises. It is crucial to note that this inspection is separate from the criminal proceedings into the death of Adnan Kivan, who passed away in the autumn of 2024. The Odrex hospital typically has around 80 inpatients at any given time, with approximately 1,000 people receiving medical care at the facility daily. Furthermore, the clinic performs an average of 10 to 15 surgeries every day, a number of which are urgent procedures.
The Critical Need for Uninterrupted Medical Services
Odrex is one of the largest private medical institutions in southern Ukraine and provides a substantial volume of services under the National Health Service of Ukraine programs. As clinic representatives emphasized,
“technical investigative actions concerning the building, such as inspecting walls, utility networks, or the property's legal status, must be clearly separated from the functioning of operating rooms, intensive care units, oxygen stations, and the continuous treatment process.”This statement underscores the vital importance of ensuring uninterrupted medical services for patients in need of urgent care, especially in a region with significant healthcare demands.
The appeal by Odrex and Miller to the Prosecutor General highlights the necessity of protecting patient rights and maintaining stability in healthcare delivery. Given the increased strain on medical facilities, particularly during times of crisis, safeguarding continuous treatment and proper patient conditions is paramount. An improperly managed building inspection could lead to severe disruptions in medical processes and jeopardize patient health.
