The official dollar exchange rate has exceeded 43 UAH for the first time in history

The official dollar exchange rate in Ukraine has exceeded the mark of 43 hryvnias for the first time in history. On Monday, January 12, the National Bank of Ukraine set the exchange rate at the level of 43.0757 UAH per dollar. For comparison, a year ago on the same date it was 42.28 UAH. This is reported by Forbes Ukraine.

According to the regulator's data, at the end of trading on the interbank market, the hryvnia weakened against the dollar from the previous 42.9904 UAH. At the same time, the official exchange rate of the hryvnia to the euro on January 12 was set at 50.1444 UAH, which is slightly lower than the figure on January 9, when it was 50.1762 UAH.

Dollar exchange rate in Ukraine: what is happening with the hryvnia

In the past year, the euro has risen against the dollar by 14%, from 1.02 to 1.17. Since the beginning of 2026, the euro in Ukraine has added almost 50 kopecks, while the dollar has appreciated by about 75 kopecks. On January 9, the euro exchange rate also exceeded 50 UAH for the first time.

Currency exchange rate forecast for 2026

The state budget for 2026 projects an average annual dollar exchange rate of 45.7 UAH. Almost half of the readers of Forbes Ukraine consider this figure realistic. At the same time, independent analysts predict that by the end of 2026, the dollar exchange rate will fluctuate between 44 and 46.4 UAH due to the need to support the hryvnia and possible reductions in international financing, which may affect currency reserves.

We remind you, the dollar and euro exchange rates in Ukraine at the beginning of 2026 are projected against the backdrop of relative stability, according to Taras Lesovyi, director of the financial markets and investment activity department of 'Globus Bank'.
