Olena Zelenska Holds Talks with UNICEF
Ukraine's First Lady, Olena Zelenska, met with representatives from UNICEF to discuss collaborative humanitarian projects. She attended the event wearing a chocolate-brown suit consisting of a jacket and long, straight-leg trousers. A vintage gold brooch from the 1980s, created by the American brand Anne Klein, drew particular attention. The piece featured intricate Celtic knotwork and tassel details. On one vintage jewelry site, a similar brooch is listed for 804 Ukrainian hryvnias (approximately $20), while prices for comparable items on other marketplaces range from $10 to $25.
The meeting was attended by the former head of the UNICEF office in Ukraine, Munir Mammadzade, and the new country representative, Ann-Claire Dufay. Olena Zelenska stated:
'For many years, UNICEF has been a stable and reliable partner for Ukraine in supporting children. Our current meeting with the Fund's team is special, as we thank the former head of the Ukrainian office, Munir Mammadzade, for his cooperation and welcome the new head, Ann-Claire Dufey, to Ukraine. We discussed our collaboration on numerous humanitarian projects—both state and private.' Olena Zelenska
The Significance of International Cooperation
This meeting underscores the critical importance of international partnerships in child welfare, a priority for Ukraine amidst ongoing challenges. Notably, last year Olena Zelenska met with Emine Erdoğan, the First Lady of Türkiye, in Ankara, where she also accessorized with a brooch—this one shaped like a map of Ukraine. Furthermore, Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Olena Zelenska attended the 2026 Taras Shevchenko National Prize of Ukraine award ceremony.
The discussion with UNICEF highlights the active role Olena Zelenska plays in humanitarian initiatives and the continuation of Ukraine's strong collaboration with international organizations. In the face of growing challenges for children in Ukraine, such partnerships are more vital than ever. By emphasizing the value of support, Zelenska also stresses the importance of personal diplomatic connections in addressing pressing social issues.
