Ukrainian Athletes Set National Record and Achieve Best Winter Olympic Performance in 16 Years at Milan-Cortina 2026

Competition at the XXV Winter Olympic Games

On February 10, 2026, the fourth day of the XXV Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina, Ukrainian competitors participated in five sports, delivering a series of impressive performances. A highlight was Yelyzaveta Sydiorko setting a new national record in short track speed skating, clocking 43.337 seconds in the women's 500m. Despite this achievement, she placed fourth in her heat and did not advance to the quarterfinals.

Ukrainian Athletes' Results

In biathlon, Dmytro Pidruchnyi finished 18th in the men's 20km individual race, incurring three penalty minutes. Other Ukrainian biathletes' results were:

  • Vitaliy Mandzyn - 28th place
  • Anton Dudchenko - 35th place
  • Taras Lesiuk - 65th place

In luge, Yulianna Tunytska finished 18th, marking Ukraine's best result in the discipline since 2010, while Olena Smaha placed 20th.

Figure skater Kyrylo Marsak delivered a stunning performance in the short program, scoring 86.89 points—a personal best improvement of over 10 points—and qualified for the free skate. In cross-country skiing events, Ukrainian athletes did not secure top placements:

  • Anastasiia Nikon - 59th place
  • Sofiia Shkatula - 64th place
  • Yelyzaveta Nopriienko - 81st place
  • Daryna Myhal - 83rd place

In the men's classic sprint, Dmytro Drahun finished 60th and Oleksandr Lisohor 70th.

On February 11, Ukrainian athletes are scheduled to compete in four more sports as the Olympic Games continue.

The competitions in Milan-Cortina continue to showcase the determination of Ukrainian athletes, who, despite mixed results, are striving for high positions in international sport.

The national record set by Yelyzaveta Sydiorko and the success of Kyrylo Marsak in figure skating point to the potential of the Ukrainian team at these Games. With several days of competition remaining, the team hopes for further achievements across various disciplines. This performance represents their strongest collective showing at a Winter Olympics since the 2010 Vancouver Games.
