The government of Ukraine approved the update of the Operational Plan for the implementation of the State Strategy for Forest Management until 2035 for the next three years. The document, developed by the Ministry of Economy, defines specific tasks and measures for implementation. In particular, the plan aims to improve the management and monitoring system of forests, create a digital infrastructure, restore forests in de-occupied territories, increase forest cover, and adapt to climate change.
The approval of the updated plan is expected to contribute to the implementation of the forest management strategy, improve forest management, increase forest areas, and make them resilient to climate change.
As a result of military actions in Ukraine, a significant number of forests are being destroyed, so an important measure is their restoration, especially in de-occupied territories, where more than 900 thousand hectares of forests are needed. The damage from the destruction of the forest fund has already exceeded 20 billion hryvnias, which poses a serious challenge for the country.
