Oppo introduces the ProXDR imaging technology

Oppo has officially unveiled ProXDR, a new system aimed at boosting high-dynamic-range image processing. According to Oppo's chief product officer and OnePlus founder Liu Zuohu, the technology builds on the company's DeepPix sensor platform and is capable of delivering up to 17 EV of dynamic range. It also enables full-size 4K HDR recording, making it especially appealing to users who demand top-tier image quality. As smartphone makers continue to compete on camera quality, such software-driven enhancements are becoming a key differentiator.

A key advantage of ProXDR is that it does not require users to activate a dedicated shooting mode. That should make the camera workflow more convenient and faster. In parallel, Oppo intends to redesign its built-in camera app so it can take full advantage of the feature.

What to know about the Oppo Find X10 series

ProXDR will make its debut in the Oppo Find X10 lineup, which is scheduled to launch in September. As part of that series, the company is testing a Find X10 Ultra prototype fitted with a dual periscope camera system. The handset is expected to include:

  • A 200-megapixel periscope telephoto camera using a roughly 1/1.3-inch sensor;
  • A 50-megapixel periscope super-telephoto camera with a sensor measuring about 1/1.95 inches.

The 50-megapixel unit provides 10x optical zoom, positioning it as a strong option for long-distance photography.

Oppo notes that the exact sensor for the 200-megapixel telephoto camera has not been finalized, as another HP-series sensor is still under consideration. These developments show Oppo's focus on substantial improvements in mobile photography, particularly as consumer demand grows for sophisticated, high-quality camera hardware.

Because ProXDR delivers high-quality images without forcing users to switch into special modes, it could be an important step forward for mobile photography. The convenience factor may also attract people who want professional-looking results from an easy-to-use camera.
