Oschadbank Disables Online Services Following Suspected DDoS Attack

Oschadbank призупинив роботу інтернет-сервісів через ймовірну атаку DDoS.

Service Disruption at Oschadbank

On March 9, Oschadbank, one of Ukraine's largest state-owned banks, was forced to suspend its electronic services due to a suspected distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack. The incident began around 10:00 AM local time when the bank's security protocols were triggered. As a precaution, the institution's servers were temporarily taken offline, and a comprehensive technical review of all systems is currently underway. Full restoration of all digital banking services is expected within the next hour.

The bank's press service stated: 'Today, March 9, at approximately 10:00 AM, the security protocols of Oschadbank were activated due to suspicion of a DDoS attack. Consequently, the bank's servers were temporarily shut down.'

Separate Incident in Hungary

In a separate event on March 5 in Hungary, personnel and assets belonging to Oschadbank were involved in a security incident. Employees, armored vehicles, and bank valuables were seized during the transportation of currency and bank metals between an Austrian bank and Oschadbank of Ukraine. The incident involved two armored cars and seven members of the cash collection team.

The transport route was between Raiffeisen Bank in Austria and Oschadbank in Ukraine. The bank has apologized for the inconvenience, emphasizing that it 'works for your safety.'

These events highlight the increasing security threats facing financial institutions. DDoS attacks, which aim to overwhelm and disable servers, are becoming more frequent, requiring banks to continuously enhance their security systems. The incident in Hungary also points to the risks associated with transporting valuables, which may raise further questions about the security of cash-in-transit operations. It is crucial for the bank not only to restore services swiftly but also to implement measures to prevent similar situations in the future.
