Two people who were on board a Bundeswehr helicopter that crashed into a river on Tuesday near the town of Grimma in Saxony were found dead. This was reported by 'Glavkom' citing Spiegel.
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, who arrived at the crash site, reported the deaths of two people. Another person aboard the helicopter is still considered missing. Pistorius expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and promised to investigate the circumstances of the crash.
At the scene of the incident, a large amount of kerosene leaked, and the wreckage of the aircraft is in the middle of the river, making it difficult to reach. About 50 rescuers are working at the scene, who must first collect the kerosene and then begin rescue operations.
It should be noted that the helicopter crashed in the river near Grimma in Saxony. It belongs to the German armed forces, confirmed the spokesperson for the Leipzig police. According to air traffic control data, the helicopter went missing between 10:00 and 10:30. Around 12:00, boaters found debris in the Mulde River.
