Starting from November 19, 2025, a law in Ukraine will come into effect that significantly raises food safety standards. Now all materials that come into contact with food - from packaging to tableware in restaurants - must comply with European safety standards.
Producers and importers will be required to adhere to specifications regarding the safety of food materials, monitor the content of chemical substances in food, conduct risk assessments, and properly label packaging.
'This means that businesses will have time for planned packaging replacement, and consumers will gradually transition to safe materials. This decision will help avoid a shortage of packaging materials while ensuring compliance with safety requirements,' emphasized the Head of the State Food Safety and Consumer Protection Service, Serhiy Tkachuk.
The goal of the new legislation is to protect consumer health, harmonize Ukrainian standards with European ones, and ensure the safety of packaging for everyone. These changes will open doors for Ukrainian producers to European markets, where high-quality standards are the key to success.
Ukraine is implementing new food safety standards that will contribute to improving the quality and safety of products consumed by citizens and will also help Ukrainian producers enter international markets, provided they comply with European standards.
