Call for peace in Ukraine

Pope Leo XIV during his Sunday sermon called for peace in Ukraine, emphasizing the suffering of the Ukrainian people from Russian shelling. He noted that the ongoing attacks are aimed at the country's energy infrastructure, causing significant harm to civilians.

In his address, Pope Leo XIV also reminded of the importance of ending violence.

“I pray for those who suffer, and again call for an end to violence and a ramping up of efforts to achieve peace” - Leo XIV.
He expressed hope that dialogue between the parties in conflict would continue, as it is necessary for the common good of society.

Humanitarian aid for Ukraine

In support of the Ukrainian people, Pope Leo XIV sent three trucks of humanitarian aid with 100,000 servings of instant soup. This initiative is part of the Holy See's efforts to provide assistance to those affected by the war in Ukraine. The Pope also mentioned Ukraine in his Christmas greeting, highlighting the importance of support and solidarity with the Ukrainian people during this difficult time.
