How to Verify Your Employment History Now That Paper Work Record Books Are No Longer Valid

Перевірка вашого трудового стажу: нові підходи в еру цифрових технологій.

Reforms to Employment History Tracking in Ukraine

Since June 10, 2021, the traditional paper work record book has ceased to be the primary document for verifying employment history in Ukraine. A new law mandated a shift to a fully digital system for recording employment data. The main source for this information is now the electronic register maintained by the Pension Fund of Ukraine (PFU), which has been accumulating data since 1998.

From 2004 onward, an individual's official insurance record has been formed exclusively based on the data in this central register. This change is part of a broader digital transformation of public services in the country. Oleksandr Maletskyi, Deputy Chairman of the PFU Board for Digital Development, has urged Ukrainian citizens to review their personal entries in the electronic register. He emphasized:

'If your paper work book contains any entries dated after June 10, 2021, those are merely a copy of what is stored in the official register.'

The Benefits of the Digital System

The reform aims to simplify access to employment history information for citizens. Ukrainians can now obtain details about their insurance record online, making the process significantly more convenient and accessible. The move to a digital format allows for quick and free verification of one's employment rights, representing a positive step in modernizing state services.

Beyond convenience, the electronic system enhances transparency and reduces risks. With employment data consolidated in a single, centralized register, the potential for errors or manipulation by employers is minimized. It is crucial for citizens to actively use these new tools to monitor their records, as this proactive approach helps safeguard their labor rights.

As the shift to a digital employment history system unfolds, understanding the implications of these changes is essential. For instance, the new pension registry not only impacts how employment records are verified but also affects future retirement benefits.
