Lviv Patrol Detains Scooter Driver in Unusual Incident

Police in Lviv stopped a scooter that was missing a license plate. The driver, who did not possess a valid license to operate any vehicle, showed clear signs of being under the influence of drugs. He refused to undergo a legally mandated sobriety test. Officers immediately removed him from the vehicle and issued multiple administrative citations, including:

  • A citation for driving under the influence, marking his third such offense within a single year,
  • A citation for driving without a valid license,
  • And a citation for failing to display proper license plates.

As the patrol also identified signs that the driver was in violation of a prior court order, the case was forwarded to investigators for further criminal proceedings. This type of repeat offense is treated seriously under Ukrainian law. The driver had been in a hurry to reach the train station to hand over a ferret that was scheduled for transport by rail to Kyiv. Recognizing the urgency of the animal's situation, the officers themselves ensured the ferret was safely delivered to the station.

The Lviv Regional Patrol Police officially reported the incident, which subsequently gained public attention and was covered by the Ukrainian news outlet 'Glavcom'.

This case underscores the critical importance of obeying traffic laws and the severe consequences of violations like driving without a license or while impaired. Refusing a sobriety test compounds these serious legal breaches, which endanger the driver and everyone else on the road. At the same time, the officers' assistance with the ferret highlights their readiness to handle unusual situations with compassion, ensuring the welfare of both people and animals.
