Pension Increases for Disability Group 3: Who Qualifies for Higher Payments Starting May 1, 2026

Зростання пенсій для людей з інвалідністю: хто отримає підвищені виплати з 1 травня 2026 року.

Pension Boost for Individuals with Third-Group Disability

Starting May 1, 2026, a specific segment of Ukrainians classified under the third disability group will see their pensions rise, following an indexation adjustment carried out in March 2025. This increase does not apply to everyone in this category; eligibility is limited to those who meet particular conditions. Specifically, the higher payments will go to individuals whose pensions were neither awarded nor recalculated as of March 1, 2025, and those receiving a standard disability pension rather than a special one. Additionally, the pension amount must exceed the minimum threshold.

Details of the Pension Increase

From May 1, payments will be calculated with a 12.1% increase. The disability pension for the third group is set at half the amount of the old-age pension. For instance, if the old-age pension stood at 5,000 hryvnias before indexation, it rose to 5,605 hryvnias after recalculation. Consequently, the disability payment increased from 2,500 to 2,802 hryvnias, representing a gain of 300 hryvnias.

The size of the third-group disability pension depends on the old-age pension, not on the individual's insurance record. Insurance history is only required to qualify for the payments. If the third-group disability is established before the age of 23, just one year of insurance coverage is needed to apply for the pension. The insurance requirement increases by one year for each subsequent age bracket. For those who receive the third-group designation between the ages of 56 and 59, they must have 14 years of insurance history to be eligible for pension benefits.

Raising pensions for people with third-group disabilities represents a significant step in supporting this vulnerable population segment.

These changes are expected to improve the financial situation for many individuals who require additional social assistance. However, it remains crucial that the indexation process is transparent and accessible to all who meet the established criteria.

As the government implements the pension increase for individuals with third-group disabilities, it's essential to understand the broader context of pension adjustments in Ukraine. Notably, a significant 12.1% rise is also scheduled for March 2026, which may affect various pension categories. This upcoming adjustment highlights the ongoing efforts to enhance financial support for vulnerable populations across the nation.
