Increase in Minimum Pension Payments in Ukraine
Beginning March 1, 2026, Ukraine will raise the minimum pension payments for families of soldiers who have been killed or gone missing in action. This policy change is part of the government's ongoing effort to support those affected by the war. Under the new rules, the minimum pension for each non-working family member will be no less than 12,810 hryvnias, a significant increase from the previous amount of 7,800 hryvnias.
Furthermore, for families where support is designated for two or more individuals, the new minimum payment will be at least 10,020 hryvnias per person, up from the prior figure of 6,100 hryvnias. These adjustments are designed to provide greater financial security to the families of military personnel who lost their lives defending the nation.
Annual Indexation and Social Justice
It is important to note that starting March 1 of the following year, the amounts of these payments will be subject to annual indexation. Minister of Social Policy Yuliia Svyrydenko stated:
“We are increasing the minimum pension payments for family members of fallen and missing defenders. The state must support the families of those who gave their lives for the defense of the homeland.” - Yuliia Svyrydenko
These new provisions represent a crucial step in ensuring social justice for those who have lost loved ones in the line of duty. The changes to pension payments for families of deceased or missing service members reflect the state's commitment to supporting those who have suffered losses due to military conflict. Raising the minimum payments will not only improve the financial situation of these families but also underscores the importance of honoring the memory of the fallen defenders. This also demonstrates the government's growing efforts to address social issues stemming from the consequences of the war.
