Pension Payments for Ukrainians Residing Abroad
Ukrainians living outside the country will continue to receive their state pensions only if they complete an online identity verification process, according to Social Policy Minister Denys Ulutin. The Pension Fund will temporarily suspend payments to those who do not pass this check, with funds being held until the individual's identity is confirmed. Verification can be done remotely or by returning to Ukraine. This policy is part of ongoing efforts to ensure the integrity of social security payments while many citizens remain displaced.
Minister Ulutin noted that a similar verification was conducted last year, and those who did not confirm their identity at that time have not been receiving payments. However, once verified, payments will be resumed and backdated to the point of suspension. Other forms of social assistance, such as aid for large families or the 'Schoolchild Package,' will continue to be paid exclusively within Ukraine's borders.
Unity Network and Support for Ukrainians
The government is also launching a 'Unity Network'—special centers abroad that will provide information on housing and job opportunities in Ukraine, as well as psychological support. These centers will not duplicate consular functions. Minister Ulutin acknowledged that a mass return of Ukrainians who have integrated into EU countries is not expected, as European governments are not inclined to lose a capable workforce. He stated that those who return will likely be individuals who have not settled successfully in their new locations.
Consequently, Ukrainians abroad must prepare for these new identity confirmation requirements to maintain pension access, while noting that certain social aid payments remain available only on Ukrainian territory.
These measures reflect the Ukrainian government's effort to ensure financial stability for pensioners residing abroad, while also underscoring the importance of proper verification.
