Roundtable Hosted by the Pension Fund of Ukraine
On June 23, 2026, the Pension Fund of Ukraine convened a roundtable in observance of International Anti-Corruption Day. The event drew over 500 participants, including staff from the Fund’s central office and regional branches, representatives from the National Agency on Corruption Prevention (NACP), as well as members of civil society and expert communities. The session was titled “Whistleblowers: From Legal Safeguards to Effective Protection.”
Key Discussions and Outcomes
During the roundtable, participants examined current whistleblower protection mechanisms, strategies for fostering a culture of reporting, and the psychological support available to those who come forward with corruption allegations. Specialists from the Pension Fund’s Anti-Corruption Prevention and Detection Unit presented a roadmap for conducting a monitoring and analytical study aimed at ensuring psychological assistance for whistleblowers within the institution.
Oleksandr Skob, head of the Whistleblowing Institute Development Division at the NACP’s Anti-Corruption Policy Implementation Department, highlighted the rights of whistleblowers. He stated:
“An effective whistleblowing system is only possible when individuals are confident that their rights will be properly protected and that reports of potential violations will be handled objectively and impartially.” — Oleksandr Skob
Olena Karpova, an expert from the NGO “Foundation for Institutional Development,” shared her perspective on the culture of reporting, emphasizing:
“The higher the level of public awareness about reporting and protection mechanisms, the more effectively the anti-corruption system operates.” — Olena Karpova
Ultimately, the roundtable served as a platform for exchanging views and ideas on improving conditions for whistleblowers in Ukraine, with a particular focus on the need for support and protection of these individuals.
This initiative underscores the critical importance of building robust support systems for whistleblowers—a key factor in combating corruption. By bringing together government officials, civil society, and experts, the event helped foster a comprehensive approach to this issue and raised public awareness about the vital role of whistleblowing in fighting corruption.
