Social Payments in Ukraine as of May 2023

As of May 20, 2023, Ukraine has completed funding for a range of social payments, including pensions, subsidies, insurance payouts, and social assistance. During May, the Pension Fund of Ukraine processed 1,039,400 services for individuals who submitted requests. This update reflects ongoing efforts to manage state welfare disbursements amid the country's challenging economic environment.

Breakdown of Social Payment Funding

Specifically, 58.6 billion hryvnias were allocated for pension payments, distributed as follows:

  • 9.0 billion hryvnias were disbursed through Ukrposhta (the national postal service);
  • 49.6 billion hryvnias were channeled via authorized banks.

For housing subsidies and benefits, 3.3 billion hryvnias were funded, while insurance payments received 2.8 billion hryvnias—of which 1.4 billion hryvnias covered sick leave. Additionally, 9.7 billion hryvnias were set aside for social assistance and other types of payouts.

This substantial allocation underscores the government's continued commitment to supporting vulnerable populations during a period of economic instability. It also highlights the critical role of social programs in ensuring citizen protection, particularly relevant in the current context. By financing diverse aid categories such as pensions and subsidies, these efforts help reduce social tension and sustain household purchasing power.
