UN Refugee Agency and Ukraine's Pension Fund Forge Agreement to Aid Displaced Citizens

Угода між УВКБ ООН та Пенсійним фондом України: нові можливості для підтримки переміщених осіб.

Key Meeting Between Ukrainian Pension Fund and UNHCR

A pivotal working meeting took place on February 4, 2026, between representatives of Ukraine's Pension Fund and a delegation from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) office in Ukraine. The discussions centered on crucial issues regarding access to pension benefits and social payments for internally displaced persons, as well as for those who have fled abroad. This collaboration is part of broader international efforts to support civilians affected by the ongoing war.

Participants included Nina Maya Shrepfer, Deputy Representative of UNHCR in Ukraine, and Yevheniia Kapinus, Chairperson of the Board of the Ukrainian Pension Fund. Kapinus briefed the UNHCR delegation on the current status of payments to citizens who have relocated from temporarily occupied territories, those who remain in these areas, and those who have gone abroad.

Outcomes of the Discussion

Following the meeting, the parties agreed to enhance coordination and develop their partnership, aiming to improve access to social payments for individuals impacted by the conflict. The agreement seeks to streamline support for vulnerable groups facing immense hardship.

This meeting represents a significant step in ensuring social support for those affected by the war in Ukraine.

As the conflict persists, access to pensions and social benefits is critically important for internally displaced persons and refugees in need of assistance. Coordinated efforts between state institutions and international organizations can substantially alleviate the plight of these individuals and help restore their rights during this challenging period.
