Updated Identification Rules for Pensioners Who Have Relocated
The Ukrainian Pension Fund has announced that pensioners displaced from occupied areas and who have officially registered their relocation will no longer need to undergo annual physical identification. While pension and insurance payment recipients temporarily residing abroad or in occupied territories must complete physical identification by December 31 each year, this requirement is waived for those who have moved to government-controlled regions and updated their pension payment address.
Importantly, this exemption applies regardless of whether the individual holds the status of an internally displaced person (IDP).
“The obligation does not depend on the person’s IDP status,” emphasizes the Ukrainian Pension Fund. Therefore, pensioners living in government-controlled areas who have informed the Pension Fund of their new address and transferred their pension payments accordingly are exempt from the annual identification process.
Benefits of the New Policy
This change aims to simplify pension access for displaced pensioners adjusting to new living conditions. Removing the annual identification requirement reduces administrative burdens and makes it easier for pensioners to receive social benefits during challenging times. The policy also reflects a commitment to supporting those affected by the ongoing conflict who have been forced to relocate.
As the Ukrainian Pension Fund implements these new identification rules, it's important for pensioners to stay informed about upcoming deadlines. For those who do not meet the identification requirements by December 31, 2026, there may be significant consequences, including the suspension of benefits starting in 2027.
