How Pensioners Are Verified in Ukraine
Under Ukrainian law, pensioners and recipients of insurance payments who temporarily reside outside Ukraine or in territories currently under occupation must complete a physical verification process by December 31 each year. This step is essential to confirm their eligibility and continue receiving benefits.
Who Must Verify and Available Methods
This requirement applies to pensioners and insurance benefit recipients living abroad or in areas occupied by the Russian Federation. Verification can be completed through several options:
- In person at any Pension Fund service center;
- At authorized banks;
- Via video conference on the Pension Fund’s web portal or through its Contact Center;
- Using the 'Diia.Signature' ('Diia ID') system or at Ukrainian diplomatic missions abroad for those residing outside Ukraine.
Verification status can be checked through the 'My Identification' service within personal accounts on the Pension Fund’s website or its mobile app. Notably, pensioners who have relocated from temporarily occupied territories to government-controlled areas and have updated their payment address are exempt from annual verification.
The legal basis for these regulations is established by Article 471 of Ukraine’s Law on Compulsory State Pension Insurance and Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 299 dated February 11, 2025. For further assistance, pensioners can contact the Pension Fund’s Contact Center at 0 800 503 753, (044) 281-08-70, or (044) 281-08-71.
This verification process is a critical component of Ukraine’s social protection framework, ensuring financial support for citizens facing difficult circumstances.
It reflects the government’s commitment to its citizens, including those temporarily outside the country or in occupied regions. Given the dynamic number of beneficiaries under these conditions, staying informed about legal rights and responsibilities is crucial.
