US-Russia negotiations in Miami reached a deadlock: what was conveyed to Moscow

Переговори між США та Росією в Маямі зайшли у глухий кут: які висновки були зроблені для Москви.

Negotiations between the USA and Russia

The negotiations between the United States of America and the Russian Federation, held in Miami on December 21, did not lead to the expected results regarding the end of the war in Ukraine. The American side conveyed to Moscow a document containing questions and expectations regarding the further development of events.

Participants in the negotiations included:

  • Kirill Dmitriev
  • Steve Witkoff
  • Jared Kushner

Among the main topics of discussion were Russia's territorial demands and Ukraine's insistence on security guarantees from the United States. These issues remained unresolved, as confirmed by the words of one of the interlocutors:

“These were not negotiations where Washington negotiated with itself.”

Moreover, complex issues regarding the peace plan outlined by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky were also discussed. A Western official noted that there is an agreement between Washington and Kyiv that had not existed a few weeks ago, which may indicate some progress in the negotiations. However, despite this, there remain questions that have not been answered. As noted by another interlocutor:

“This is what still does not add up. Come back tomorrow with answers.”

Conclusions

Thus, the negotiations in Miami reflect the complexity of the situation and the need for further dialogue between the parties. These negotiations underscore the complexity and multifaceted nature of the conflict in Ukraine, as well as the importance of international diplomacy in resolving such crises. Despite the lack of progress on major issues, the growing consensus between the USA and Ukraine may indicate potential changes in approaches to future negotiations. In this context, it is important to monitor further developments and the reactions of all participants to the results of the dialogue.
