A MasterChef Winner's Journey Through Anxiety Disorder

Natalka Nikishina, who won the cooking show 'MasterChef,' has spoken candidly about her experience with an anxiety disorder. She revealed that after the show, exhaustion led her to a psychiatrist, and she has been taking antidepressants for roughly eight months. Her condition worsened due to her father’s death more than ten years ago, along with uncertainty about the future and a failed partnership with a production agency. Her story resonates with many who experience anxiety disorders, a common yet often hidden struggle.

Turning to Professional Care

Seeing a psychiatrist became inevitable for Nikishina. She first consulted a psychologist, then a neurologist who referred her to a psychiatrist.

“I thought, ‘Well, that’s it—I’m headed for the loony bin.’ But the doctor said, ‘No, you’re fine—you reached out in time.’ I have an anxiety disorder and have been on antidepressants for about eight months,” she shares.

After beginning treatment, Nikishina reported positive changes.

“Now I have tons of inspiration, tons of energy, and tons of antidepressants,” she noted.
She also said that constant irritation and sudden outbursts of anger have disappeared, and she no longer demands perfection from herself, shedding what she calls her “straight-A student complex.” She urged everyone not to fear seeking help and emphasized that a psychiatrist is just like any other doctor.

Nikishina’s openness about her anxiety disorder marks a significant step in raising mental health awareness. Her example may inspire others facing similar struggles to seek professional support. It also underscores the need for open discussions about mental illness in society, helping to reduce stigma and improve overall understanding.

In today’s world, where stress and uncertainty are part of daily life, it is essential to look after one’s mental health and not hesitate to ask for help from professionals. Such personal accounts help normalize treatment and encourage those in need to reach out.

As discussions around mental health continue to gain traction, it's important to recognize how various public figures manage their well-being. For instance, Natalka Denysenko recently shared her own health journey, highlighting the challenges of balancing work commitments with personal health needs. Such stories emphasize the importance of prioritizing mental health in demanding environments.
