In May, pensions will be recalculated for Ukrainians aged 65 and older. This is not about one-time payments, but about the operation of a mechanism that guarantees a minimum level of payments for people with a full insurance record. This is reported by "today.ua".
Pension recalculation 65+: what the amount depends on
The amount of the increase is determined individually. Key factors include:
-
insurance record: at least 35 years for men and 30 years for women;
-
official income from which contributions were paid.
These indicators determine whether the pension needs to be increased to the guaranteed state level.
For non-working pensioners aged 65 with a full record, a separate minimum threshold is established. In 2026, it amounts to 40% of the minimum wage, which is 3,458.80 UAH. At the same time, the actual minimum payment for this category is higher — 3,758 UAH. If the accrued pension is lower, it is automatically raised to this level.
Pension increases after 65: who will not be recalculated
The recalculation will not cover all pensioners in this age group. Increases are not provided if:
-
the person continues to work or engages in entrepreneurial activity;
-
the insurance record is insufficient;
-
the current pension already exceeds the established minimum.
For working pensioners, the review of payments will be postponed until the moment of dismissal or termination of activity.
Recalculation is done automatically without the submission of applications. It is important that the system has up-to-date data on the record and the status of the pensioner, as these determine the right to an increase.
Earlier, the state introduced a mechanism to guarantee minimum payments for elderly people with a full record to ensure a basic level of income. This approach is used during the May pension review.
It should be noted that the retirement age depends on the insurance record, which determines the specific age thresholds for retirement. The minimum record for receiving an old-age pension is 15 years. It is important to note that there is no single retirement age for all citizens in Ukraine.
